In this competition 19 local authorities and colleges use their skills and experience to stage a flower bed that reflects their community’s identity.

A floral tribute to the centenary celebrations for Stockport Town Hall this year. One hundred Years includes a model of the building’s clock tower, sculptural metalwork fireworks and a huge Stockport shield.

The returning winners of 2007 entertain visitors with this all-singing, all-dancing flower bed celebrating the rich cultural tapestry of the city.
The bed links the city’s entertainment heritage with its more recent associations with music and culture using a decorative screen reminiscent of a music hall and modern stage.
Yellow Submarine

Reminiscent of the psychedelic 60s, this flower bed marks the 40th anniversary of the Beatles film Yellow Submarine.
The main feature of the bed is a giant yellow submarine, which will be planted with marigolds and placed on a sea of vivid colours and bizarre patterns made from Begonia 'Super Olympia Red', Ageratum 'Champion Blue', Begonia 'Non-Stop Pink' and more.

The Welsh College of Horticulture’s entry celebrates the work of the famous 20th century artist Kadinski. The design is made up of cleverly planted circles and bright Perspex discs, each a different colour to represent one of the artists famous paintings.
