New and interesting plants
There were many new and interesting plants on show at the RHS Flower Show Tatton Park. Here is a selection of our favourites.
Fryer's Roses

Local grower Fryer’s Roses, Knutsford, had among its magnificent display two new hybrid teas. Rosa Frynova 'Macon Rouge' (right) a cerise bloom with deep tones of magenta, and Rosa Frynesca 'Crème Caramel' (left), with flowers of a curious coffee and caramel colour.
Shirley Tasker

An almost black leaved begonia was displayed by Shirley Tasker, Southport, holder of a National Collection of begonia. Called Begonia ‘Black Mambo’ (left) it was bred in Holland and produces deep cerise flowers which stand proud of the foliage. Other new cultivars included B. ‘African Jungle’ (right) with green foliage splashed and spotted with pink and B. ‘Spitfire’ a pink leaved form with green edging named to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Royal Air Force.
Chris Cook Plants

The stand of Chris Cook Plants was packed with interesting and unusual plants. Two that caught our eye were Allium serra (left), a north American species said to be relatively easy to grow in soil with reasonable drainage and Pelargonium luridum (right) a tuberous species with fern-like foliage and pale lemon flowers from South Africa.

Hampshire Carnivorous Plants
Nepenthes ‘Rebecca Soper’ has very dark purple pitchers and was shown by Hampshire Carnivorous Plants, Southampton. It is named after the owner’s daughter and is a hybrid of N. ramispina and N. ventricosa crossed at the nursery. Seedlings from this cross had pitchers ranging in colour from olive green to the dark purple chosen for naming. Plants have been bulked up by tissue culture in Holland.
