At the End of my Garden

At the End of my Garden draws on nostalgic images of home to create a space that might be familiar to all, somewhere that we can reflect on what we hold dear. The garden has been inspired by Marie Curie Nurses who care for terminally ill people in their own homes, surrounded by the familiar things they love.

Stepping stones lead across a lawn flanked by perennial and herbaceous borders. Traditional cottage garden plants, including salvia, achillea, lavender and nepeta, add to the tranquil atmosphere and highlight the peace of mind a Marie Curie Nurse provides.

A stream flows underneath a bridge, guiding us into the woodland area. Ferns, ivy and ornamental foxgloves thrive under a canopy of oak, elder and birch trees. Several of the garden’s plants and trees are known for the therapeutic qualities, including yew and Echinacea.

Many people will recognise the shed, tools and firewood featured here from their own garden or that of a loved one.

At the edge of the woodland area, a fallen oak forms a seat where we can reflect on times gone by. The garden begins and ends here, coming full circle like life itself.
