Grow your own VEG

Texel greens

Texel greens have a mild mustard flavour and are used as salad greens or in stir-fries with. They are fast growing and very productive, cropping throughout the summer. Plants can be eaten as young leaves or the whole plant can be used.

Sowing

Sow from April to August. Sow thinly, 13mm (0.5in) deep in rows 23cm (9in) apart.

Can also be sown under cover in February/March and autumn for very early and extra late crops, or all year round on the windowsill.

Growing

As soon as seedlings are large enough to handle, thin them out to 5-10cm (2-4in) apart.

Keep the soil weed free and water well during dry conditions.

Harvesting

It is best treated as a cut-and-come-again crop, harvesting a few leaves from each plant.
