'Hearts of Gold' is a deciduous, often multi-stemmed, tree with a rounded-crown reaching a height of 5m and spread of 6m. The heart-shaped leaves emerge orange-red in spring, turning a bright gold-yellow in full sun and maturing to a yellow-green colour. Clusters of small, pea-like, rose-purple flowers are borne on bare branches in the spring before the foliage emerges
