Slow-growing, deciduous tree about 10m tall, with an upright, branching habit. Wavy-margined, ferny leaves emerge bronze-purple in spring maturing to dark greenish-purple in summer before turning a golden orange-brown in autumn. Inconspicuous greenish-yellow flowers are followed by brown fruits in autumn
