Clusters of narrow, hanging, dark red flowers are produced below the leaves in summer, followed by black fruit
'Gallery Pablo' is a compact plant to 50cm, with light coral-red flowerheads, the florets shading to apricot-yellow towards the base
'Firebird' is a clump-forming, evergreen perennial to 2m tall with upright or slightly drooping sword-like leaves rangeing in colour from bronze-green through purple-green to bronze-orange with bright red stripes and margins. In summer, erect stems bearing panicles of tubular red flowers may appear
'Ashby' is a bushy plant growing to 90cm tall and wide at maturity. The lobed, scented leaves are mid- to dark-green and flowers are a pink-purple colour with dark central markings on the upper petals
'Karneol' is an upright perennial to 1.2m tall, flowering in late summer and autumn, the flowerheads with spreading deep red ray florets surrounding a brown centre
'Millennium' grows to 1.8m, with long stems bearing strongly fragrant flowers 6cm across, the standards deep reddish-purple, the wing petals vivid purplish-red
'Rotschwanz' is a rounded deciduous shrub with glossy dark green leaves that colour wine-red in autumn. Flattened lacecap flowerheads with large deep red, cross-shaped sterile flowers and fertile flowers of pink and white are produced in mid and late summer
D. macropodum is a large, evergreen shrub to about 6m high and wide with dark green, glossy, rhododendron-like leaves that tend to droop in winter, revealing the bright red leaf stalks. Young spring foliage is pale green, often flushed pink. Red male and green female petal-less flowers are borne on separate plants in late spring. Pollinated female plants produce heavily-bloomed black berries in autumn
'Ms Mars Improved' is a compact, branching annual to 60cm tall with purple-flushed, oval to heart-shaped leaves. Flowers up to 15cm across borne from summer into early autumn have very dark centres surrounded by deep pink-red petals the outer tips of which are cream coloured
Papworth's Pride is a shrub rose, to 1.5m tall, with glossy mid-green foliage and bearing clusters of very fragrant, semi-double, large raspberry-red, peony-shaped flowers with prominent yellow anthers; flowers repeatedly over a long period from summer to autumn
