'Hearts of Gold' is a deciduous, often multi-stemmed, tree with a rounded-crown reaching a height of 5m and spread of 6m. The heart-shaped leaves emerge orange-red in spring, turning a bright gold-yellow in full sun and maturing to a yellow-green colour. Clusters of small, pea-like, rose-purple flowers are borne on bare branches in the spring before the foliage emerges
'Forest Pansy' is a large deciduous shrub or small, often multi-stemmed, tree. Leaves to 12cm in width, broadly heart-shaped, deep red-purple turning shades of orange, bronze and red-purple in autumn. Small, bright-pink flowers appear in clusters on bare stems before the leaves in spring. Grown mainly for striking foliage effects
C. japonicum var. pendulum is a deciduous tree with long, pendulous branches bearing broadly heart-shaped leaves which turn pink and orange in autumn
C. japonicum is an elegant medium-sized deciduous tree, with paired, broadly heart-shaped leaves to 10cm in length, bronze-tinted when young, and turning yellow, orange and pink in autumn, when they smell of burnt sugar. Flowers and fruits inconspicuous
'Bodnant' is a bushy, deciduous small tree with deep purple, pea-shaped flowers in clusters on the older stems. Leaves are broadly heart-shaped and fruit a conspicuous flattened purplish pod
'Boyd's Dwarf' is an elegant, small to medium, deciduous tree, with paired, broadly heart-shaped leaves, to 10cm in length. Foliage is bronze-tinted when young, shades of green in summer, then turning yellow, orange and pink in autumn; the autumn leaves with a toffee-fragrance. Flowers and fruits inconspicuous
'Avondale' produces abundant, densely-clustered dark purple-pink flowers in late spring before the leaves appear; leaves are relatively large, heart-shaped and tinted red-purple when they unfurl
'Ruby Falls' is a compact, weeping cultivar to 2m tall and wide. The heart-shaped leaves, to 10cm long, emerge a dark maroon-red maturing to a dark purple colour in summer. The deep lavender-pink flowers appear before the foliage in spring
'Don Egolf' is a free-flowering cultivar that is slow growing and compact in habit. In early spring the branches are smothered in rosy-mauve flowers before the heart-shaped leaves appear
'Heronswood Globe' is a slow-growing cultivar that forms a globe-shaped small tree with brilliant autumn colour
