It is included in an evolving list of plants carefully researched and chosen by RHS experts. Divided into 3 groups these lists, linked below, are maintained by a team of RHS staff and are reviewed annually.
'Variegatum' is a semi-evergreen perennial forming a low clump to 10cm in height, with fleshy, bluntly toothed obovate leaves margined with creamy-white and tinged pink, and loose clusters of starry bright yellow flowers in late summer
'Purple Emperor' is a compact, clump-forming deciduous perennial to 50cm tall, with broad, deep purple leaves on dark red stems, and rounded clusters of small, pale purplish-pink flowers in late summer
'Euphorbioides' is a deciduous perennial, to 30cm tall, with a stout rootstock and upright, red stems bearing slightly fleshy, stalkless leaves. Flattened, terminal clusters of star-shaped, rich yellow flowers are produced in summer
'Angelina' is an evergreen, low-growing, mat-forming perennial to 15cm tall and 60cm wide. The cylindrical, linear leaves are a bright yellow in the spring, maturing to yellow-green in the summer with orange and red autumnal tints. Upright stems carry clusters of small, yellow flowers in the summer
'Vera Jameson' is an herbaceous perennial forming a clump to 30cm in height, with spreading stems and ovate glaucous leaves strongly tinged with purplish-pink. Starry rose-pink flowers in rounded clusters to 6cm in width in late summer and early autumn
'Matrona' is an upright deciduous perennial to 60cm tall, with large, ovate grey-green leaves tinged purple near the margins, and dense clusters of pale pink flowers in summer and early autumn
'Herbstfreude' is an herbaceous perennial forming a clump to 60cm in height, with fleshy, oblong, glaucous green leaves and large flat terminal clusters of starry flowers in early autumn. The flowers open from greenish-pink buds, rapidly progressing through pale pink to become deep pink and ultimately taking on a brownish hue
H. spectabile is an herbaceous perennial to 45cm, with thick erect stems bearing shallowly scalloped, broadly elliptic, grey-green leaves and starry pink flowers in flat terminal clusters to 15cm across in late summer
'Cape Blanco' is an evergreen perennial forming a wide mat to 10cm in height, with thick, purple-tinged grey-green leaves, the inner ones white-bloomed. Starry yellow flowers 15mm width are carried in small terminal clusters
H. ewersii is a deciduous perennial to around 15cm tall with trailing stems of grey-green, rounded, fleshy leaves to 2cm across. In late summer, dome-shaped flowerheads up to 10cm across, comprising clusters of star-shaped pink flowers to 1cm, are held on short stems above the foliage
