'Laciniata' is a large, bushy deciduous shrub with deeply dissected, fern-like leaves and flat heads of small creamy-white flowers in summer, followed by glossy purple-black berries
'Aurea' is a large, bushy deciduous shrub with pinnate, deep golden-yellow leaves and flattish heads of small, scented creamy-white flowers followed by purple-black berries
'Gerda' is a deciduous shrub or small tree, with deep purple foliage from spring to autumn and flat heads of small, pinkish-purple flowers, followed by purple-black berries
Black Tower is an upright deciduous shrub or small tree, with foliage opening green but soon turning dark purple in a sunny position. Flat heads of musky-scented, pale pink flowers with large red anthers appear in late spring, followed by purple-black berries
'Eva' is a deciduous shrub to 3m with very deeply dissected purplish-black foliage from spring to autumn, giving a distinctive lacy effect. Flat umbels of tiny pinkish flowers are borne abundantly in summer and have the characteristic grape scent of elder flowers. Purple-black berries may follow
S. nigra is bushy large shrub or small tree to 6m, with pinnate leaves turning pale yellow in autumn, flat sprays of fragrant cream flowers in early summer followed by small black berries
'Guincho Purple' is a bushy large shrub or small tree, up to 6m high, with pinnate leaves which open green, turn dark purple in summer, and finally red in autumn. Flowerheads in early summer, of pale pink flowers on dark pink stems, are followed by black fruits in late summer and early autumn
