It is included in an evolving list of plants carefully researched and chosen by RHS experts. Divided into 3 groups these lists, linked below, are maintained by a team of RHS staff and are reviewed annually.
'Aureum' is a vigorous, bushy deciduous shrub with maple-like, 3-lobed, bright yellow leaves and flat clusters of small white flowers surrounded by larger sterile flowers, in early summer, followed by red berries
'Compactum' is a compact medium-sized deciduous shrub with 3- to 5-lobed leaves turning purplish-pink in autumn. Flat heads of small fertile flowers in early summer, surrounded by creamy-white sterile ones, and followed by bright red berries
'Notcutt's Variety' is a large, rounded shrub reaching a height and spread of 4m. The deeply-lobed, glossy green leaves turn shades of orange and red in autumn. Flattened clusters of white flowers, borne in late spring and early summer, are followed by persistent, translucent red berries
'Roseum' is a large, bushy deciduous shrub with 3- to 5-lobed leaves turning reddish in autumn. Creamy-white sterile flowers in dense rounded clusters to 6cm in width. No fruit
V. opulus is an upright deciduous shrub to 5m, with maple-like, palmately lobed leaves which turn pink or red in autumn, and flat clusters of small white flowers surrounded by larger sterile flowers, and followed by translucent red berries
'Xanthocarpum' is a large deciduous shrub with maple-like leaves turning yellow or pinkish in autumn. Creamy-white flowers in flattened heads are followed by translucent deep yellow berries
