Rodney Knight

Horticulturist (Level II)

I have a very varied job and I do anything ranging from tree climbing, working in the woodlands, assisting with new projects such as the green ship, tree planting, putting out the summer bedding or weeding tree pits

I started my carrier in horticulture in 2003 after being made redundant from Appledore shipyard, where I worked as a welder. I did a NVQ with Bicton college, some chainsaw qualifications, volunteered for the National Trust, I Worked for a landscaping firm and as a grounds man for a tree surgery firm, before coming to Rosemoor in 2005, on the one year RHS Practical Horticulture course. Just before I finished the course a job came up here and I came back as a member of staff. I work in Lady Anne’s garden, I have a very varied job and I could be asked to do anything ranging  from tree climbing, working in the woodlands, assisting with new projects such as the green ship, tree planting, putting out the summer bedding or  weeding tree pits to name just a few of my jobs. There are always learning opportunities at Rosemoor throughout the RHS, and beyond from contacts I have made during the course of my work. I have done loads of courses since starting with the RHS, Including my RFS 2 and professional tree inspection course. It is a very interesting place to work with great workmates.
