Laura Silburn is a botanical artist and illustrator working in Cornwall, where the diverse flora and gardens continually inspire her. She has twice won a Gold Medal from the RHS (2013, 2014 and 2018), their Best in Show Award 2014 and also paints for the Eden Project Florilegium Society. Her work is in the RHS Lindley Library, the Shirley Sherwood collection, the Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney and other public and private collections, and she has taken part in the prestigious Transylvania Florilegium.
In this workshop, you will be using freshly emerging flowers such as primulas and hellebores, and concentrating on the various colours and textures of spring flowers and leaves. Working step by step we will move from accurate line drawing and tonal shading to produce a finished watercolour painting on a plant of your choice. We will work on colour matching, layering washes and dry brushing for the finishing details to sharpen up your picture. We will work at the students' own pace and the workshop will be suitable for everyone from complete beginners to improvers.
