    Needlefelting

Create a beautiful needle-felted poinsettia and/or hellebore, also known as the Christmas Rose, using British wool. Julie will demonstrate and teach from an artist’s perspective how to ‘paint with wool’ in a step-by-step lesson. You will learn about the equipment and the process of needle felting, about different compositions and how to build up layers using a variety of wools and materials to achieve fine details. You will be using barbed needles to produce a 16cm square piece of art ready to frame.

Inspired by nature and the local landscape, Julie’s needlefelts are created with British wool mainly from Dartmoor and Exmoor sheep and purchased from local mills. Starting out as a florist in Warwickshire and working for 10 years creating bespoke wedding flowers, Julie then attended university, graduating with a BA (hons) 1st Illustration, and became a fully qualified Secondary School Art Teacher. After 20 years teaching using a variety of media, Julie now teaches from her home on the edge of Dartmoor as well as exhibiting and producing her own artwork. Julie works in a variety of mediums including acrylics and inks, oil pastels mixed media and of course wonderful wool!
