Get involved with the RHS shows

Discover how you and your local community group can get involved with the RHS Flower Shows

Preparing a garden at an RHS Show
With front gardens being paved over by the day, back gardens shrinking in size and increasing numbers of people living without access to a garden, the stunning Show Gardens at the RHS Flower Shows can often seem out of reach.

There’s no doubt that the bountiful blooms and cutting-edge designs provide endless inspiration, but if you haven’t got your own garden, it can seem impossible to recreate the ideas from our shows, no matter how keen you are.

This is where our community groups come in. Here at the RHS, we work with hundreds of groups all over the UK that encourage volunteers to green up local spaces. In 2019, we want community groups to join us at our flower shows.

Whether you’re part of a group or thinking about joining one in your local area, take a look at the opportunities below to see what's happening at our shows in 2019.

Get competitive at Cardiff

Flowers blooming in a borderNew for RHS Flower Show Cardiff in 2019 is our Blossoming Beds competition. We’re looking for applications from community groups, Britain in Bloom groups, Affiliated Societies and more to go head to head in designing a bed that’s packed with spring colour.

The beds will inspire visitors to recreate the look at home and give you the opportunity to spread the word about the good work that your community group does.

If you're up for the challenge, use our online application form to apply.

Soothe your senses at Chatsworth

Guests enjoying a cup of tea at RHS Chatsworth Flower Show
RHS Chatsworth Flower Show wants to boost visitors' wellbeing this year and is looking for community groups to plant up beautiful containers that soothe the senses.

The Planted Container competition will showcase the power of plants to improve wellbeing through sensory stimulation – this might be with bright colourful plants that make you feel happy, or a cooler palette to evoke a sense of calm.

There's no charge to enter the competition, but you must be part of a gardening group or community team to apply.

To find out more, read our factsheet and then apply using our online application form.

Another opportunity for community groups at Chatsworth comes in the form of the show's much-loved Well Dressing feature. For 2019, the team at Chatsworth will select eight Well Dressing groups to dazzle our visitors.

Find out more about the Well Dressing feature and express your interest in featuring at the show.

Grow your own at Hampton Court Palace

A collection of plants in an allotment-style display
This year RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival will introduce a brand new category, the RHS Community Allotment.

The RHS Community Allotment will celebrate the best of community gardening and feature a number of allotment-style plots full of delicious vegetables, herbs, fruits and flowers.

We are inviting applications from local community gardening groups to design and plant up your own allotment-style garden by choosing a 3mx3m or 6mx3m plot. This is a fantastic opportunity to promote your group and to inspire visitors to get involved in community gardening at home.

Read our factsheet to find out more and apply online using our application form.

Start a conversation at Tatton Park

Planting a display at an RHS Flower ShowThe ever-popular Blooming Borders are making a welcome return to RHS Flower Show Tatton Park in 2019. These 3x3m or 3x6m raised beds offer community groups the opportunity to plant up a show-stopping display to be in the chance of being awarded a medal from the RHS judging panel.

In 2019, we’re looking for community groups to plant up a border with the theme of Hot Topics. A Hot Topic can be anything in the news that engages visitors and gets them talking, whether it be something that affects horticulture as a whole, or an issue specific to your community.

To appy, read our factsheet and use our online form to apply

Not part of a community group?
