Most new roses are chosen for their garden display, or developed for professional cut flower growers and not available to home gardeners.
Rosa Timeless Purple (‘Noa38121’) is an award-winning new rose that bridges that divide.
Technically a Hybrid Tea rose, the rather rounded buds open to reveal long-lasting old-fashioned style flowers in rich purple and each with a deep red centre. Individual flowers are about 11cm across and packed with sixty to eighty petals, giving flowers that are in just the right proportion on 80cm-1m plants.
But there are three other factors. Timeless Purple lasts unusually well when cut for the house. It also has a rich and powerful fragrance and, finally, and invaluable to the home gardener, it is also has excellent resistance to blackspot, powdery mildew, downy mildew and rust.
Timeless Purple was selected at his nursery in Germany in 2009 by Reinhard Noack, who in 2008 crossed one his own unnamed seedlings with
Westzeit (‘Noa75800’), his own peachy Floribunda, introduced in 2006. It has also been sold under the name
Laudatio and also
Purple Voluptua.
Visitors to last year’s National Plant Show voted
Timeless Purple Best in Show. It is available from
Buckingham Nurseries and as part of a collection from
van Meuwen and from
Thompson & Morgan. It may also be found in garden centres as part of the 'Home Florist' range.
