Bowled over by a unique green clematis

The first-ever double-flowered green clematis raises the bar

Clematis Green Passion (‘Zo11050’)There have been so many exciting new clematis introduced in recent years that I hesitate to bring news of another, but this one genuinely is unique. It’s the first-ever double clematis with green flowers. And it’s not cream with a few green tints, it really is green.
Clematis Green Passion is a member of the Early Large-flowered Group, and opens its first flush of flowers in May and June. Each flower is 10-15cm (4-6in) across, fully double and packed with masses of apple green petals that are paler on the backs.
In August and September there’s a second flush of flowers but these are slightly different. Although double, they have fewer petals and there’s a noticeable amount of white mixed in. The flowers are also excellent for cutting, although a licence is required for selling the cut flowers.
Green Passion as developed in The Netherlands by J. van Zoest B.V., and was selected in 2011.
Plant Green Passion in an east-, west- or south-facing site, preferably near a path where the flowers can be admired closely. It should reach about 2m (6½ft) in height, perhaps a little less when grown in a container, and is best pruned lightly in early spring or not at all.
You can order Clematis Green Passion (‘Zo11050’) from RHS Plants and from Thorncroft Clematis.
