It is included in an evolving list of plants carefully researched and chosen by RHS experts. Divided into 3 groups these lists, linked below, are maintained by a team of RHS staff and are reviewed annually.
'Bud's Yellow' is a vigorous, deciduous, suckering shrub, up to 2.5m high, with yellow-green stems that are especially bright in winter, and green oval leaves up to 11cm long. Small yellowish-white flowers are borne in clusters, up to 7cm across, in early summer and are followed by round white berries in late summer
'Sibirica' is a medium-sized suckering deciduous shrub forming a thicket of slender red stems, becoming bright crimson in winter. Leaves ovate, turning reddish in autumn, flowers small, cream, in flat heads; berries bluish-white
'Hedgerows Gold' has variegated foliage; young leaves have a yellow margin which becomes creamy-white with age, surrounding a green centre
C. alba is a vigorous, suckering shrub with red stems, conspicuous in winter, and dark green foliage which takes on red or orange autumn tints. Flat heads of inconspicuous, creamy flowers in late spring and early summer are followed by bunches of small, white berries
'Elegantissima' is a bushy deciduous medium-sized shrub to 3m, with deep red stems and grey-green, white-margined narrowly ovate leaves to 10cm in length. Flowers small, creamy-white, in flat heads; berries white
'Aurea' is a deciduous medium-sized shrub with soft yellow, ovate leaves, reddish stems and insignificant cream flowers
Baton Rouge is a medium-sized, suckering, deciduous shrub forming a thicket of slender red stems that become bright crimson in winter. Leaves ovate, turning plum-coloured in autumn; flowers small, cream, in flat heads; berries bluish-white
'Spaethii' is a medium-sized deciduous, suckering shrub with stems bright red in winter. Leaves ovate with bold yellow margins. Flowers cream in flattish clusters, berries white
Ivory Halo is a compact cultivar reaching 1.5-2m. It has red stems, brighter when young, variegated cream and green deciduous foliage that can turn red in autumn. Clusters of small white flowers in late spring and early summer are followed by blue-white fruits
'Kesselringii' is a vigorous deciduous shrub forming a thicket of upright dark red shoots which become blackish-purple in winter, with oval leaves turning red and purple in autumn; small cream flowers are followed by white berries
