It is included in an evolving list of plants carefully researched and chosen by RHS experts. Divided into 3 groups these lists, linked below, are maintained by a team of RHS staff and are reviewed annually.
E. pithyusa is an upright to spreading herbaceous perennial to about 40cm with close-packed whorls of very narrow, blue-grey leaves, and terminal clusters of yellow flowers from late spring to mid-summer
Tiny Tim is a dwarf, evergreen sub-shrub, to 40cm in height, with dark red stems bearing narrow, grey-green leaves flushed red in winter. Open sprays of lime green flowers, with red eyes, are produced in late spring and early summer
'Purpurea' is a softly downy evergreen perennial to 75cm tall, with deep purple stems and leaves, and contrasting lime-green flowers opening at the ends of the leafy stems in spring and early summer
E. milii var. splendens is a semi-prostrate to scrambling, slow growing, mainly evergreen, semi-succulent shrub. The stems are armed with well-spaced thorns and the small yellow flowers with their showy red bracts appear mostly in spring and summer
'Kolibri' is a compact, evergreen subshrub to about 40cm with whorls of narrow, dark green leaves on red-flushed stems. Sprays of long-lasting, lime-green flowers with red eyes are produced in spring and early summer
'John Tomlinson' is an erect, open-habited medium-sized evergreen perennial with narrow grey-green leaves and large rounded heads of bright yellow-green flowers
'Jimmy Platt' is an evergreen perennial or sub-shrub, a little over 1m tall and wide, with narrow, bluish, grey-green leaves with a pale midrib. Yellow-green flowers are produced in spring and summer
E. × pasteurii is an evergreen shrub forming a dome up to 1.5m tall and wide. Stiff, upward-curving stems bear narrow, green leaves with a creamy-white midrib and may in autumn take on red tinges. From early- to mid-summer, these stems are topped with clusters of honey-scented, yellow-brown flowers
'Dixter' is a spreading rhizomatous perennial to 90cm, making a thicket of erect stems clothed with narrow dark green, red-tinged leaves and ending in a cluster of bright orange-red flowers
'Purple and Gold' is an evergreen subshrub or shrubby perennial to around 1.5m tall. Leaves are a dull green in summer but turn purple in autumn and winter. Large, bright yellow and green flowerheads are borne from spring into summer
