It is included in an evolving list of plants carefully researched and chosen by RHS experts. Divided into 3 groups these lists, linked below, are maintained by a team of RHS staff and are reviewed annually.
'Wisley Supreme' is a spreading deciduous shrub or small tree, with broadly ovate or rounded leaves and fragrant golden-yellow flowers borne in small clusters on the leafless twigs from mid to late winter
'Jelena' is a large deciduous shrub of spreading habit, with broad leaves turning red and yellow in autumn, and coppery-orange flowers 2.5cm across in late winter
Hamamelis x intermedia comprise a variable group of deciduous shrubs to 4m tall and wide. Broadly ovate green leaves to 15cm long turn attractive shades of orange and yellow in autumn. Slightly scented, spider-like flowers with twisted petals in shades of yellow, orange or red are borne on bare stems from midwinter to early spring
P. persica is a wide-spreading, often multi-stemmed deciduous tree or large shrub to 8m, with attractive flaking bark. Leaves turn yellow, red and purple in autumn. Small crimson flowers on bare twigs
S. sinensis is a large, semi-evergreen shrub with upright branches and dark green, leathery leaves up to 10cm long. In spring, short, dense clusters of brown-felted buds open to reveal petal-less flowers with red anthers and yellow filaments
C. glabrescens var. gotoana is a spreading shrub to 6m in height, with broadly oval leaves, blue-grey beneath and dark green above. Pendulous racemes of small, fragrant, pale-yellow flowers appear in mid-spring on bare stems. Foliage may turn a bright yellow in autumn
'Blue Mist' is a dense, bushy shrub with oval blue-green leaves turning bright red, orange and yellow in autumn. Cylindrical terminal fragrant flower spikes to 4cm long, of small white flowers with long stamens are borne in spring before the leaves
H. mollis is a large deciduous shrub with broad, oval leaves turning yellow in winter, and strongly fragrant, bright golden-yellow flowers in late winter
'Aurora' is a vigorous, deciduous shrub with a rather upright, vase-shaped habit, reaching 3.5 x 3.5m. The broadly oval leaves turn orange-yellow and red. Flowers are yellow, shaded bronze-red at the base of the petals. Very fragrant
'Variegata' has glossy, pale green leaves striped and mottled with yellow. New growth has a pink flush, and autumn colour is good
