S. exigua is a suckering shrub forming a thicket of slender stems bearing narrowly lance-shaped to linear leaves to 10cm long, silvery when young, later grey-green
'Wehrhahnii' is a slow-growing, small, spreading deciduous shrub with erect, purple-brown shoots bearing silvery-white male catkins, later yellow, followed by bright green leaves later dark, glaucous beneath
S. nakamurana var. yezoalpina is a prostrate shrub, with long trailing arms, to 30cm high and up to 3m across. Rounded to ovate, net-veined leaves are held on long stalks and emerge covered with silky white hairs. Leaves mature to a glossy green before turning yellow in autumn. Silky, yellowish catkins are borne in spring
'Sekka' is a vigorous, spreading shrub ultimately forming a very large, dense thicket up to 5m high and 10m across. Many of the stems are curiously flattened and twisted, but still produce small, lance-shaped, bright green leaves and showy, silvery catkins with golden-yellow anthers in early spring
S. lanata is a bushy, slow-growing small deciduous shrub with rounded, silvery-woolly leaves to 6cm in length. Male catkins erect, to 5cm, silvery becoming yellow; female catkins longer, greenish
'Melanostachys' is a bushy shrub to 3m tall, with oval, glossy leaves that are grey-hairy when young; showy black catkins open in early spring and have orange-red anthers that turn yellow as they mature
'Tristis' is a fast-growing weeping willow with narrow leaves on slender yellow branches, and slim female catkins in early spring
S. purpurea is a spreading shrub or small tree to 5m, with arching purplish shoots bearing narrowly oblong, blue-green leaves and slender silvery catkins on bare shoots in early spring
'Crispa' is a medium-sized, deciduous tree of upright, open habit with narrow, spirally-curled, green leaves that are twisted around the straight stems. Small, yellowish catkins are borne in spring
S. repens var. argentea is a deciduous bushy shrub, to 1m tall and 2m wide, initially upright in habit then arching and spreading. Narrowly-oval, densely-hairy leaves are grey-green above and silvery beneath and appear after the silvery catkins that mature to yellow in spring
