This plant will provide nectar and pollen for bees and the many other types of pollinating insects.
It is included in an evolving list of plants carefully researched and chosen by RHS experts. Divided into 3 groups these lists, linked below, are maintained by a team of RHS staff and are reviewed annually.
'Cordelia' is a bulbous perennial, to 15cm tall, with narrow, grey-green leaves and solitary, nodding, double, white flowers, with narrow outer segments and a well-shaped rosette of inner segments with variable green markings, in mid- to late winter
'Robin Hood' is a vigorous, clump-forming hybrid with an upright habit and grey-green basal leaves. Flowers comprise white outer petals and inner petals marked with green to form an elongated 'X' shape
'Lady Elphinstone' is a bulbous perennial, to 12cm tall, with narrow, grey-green leaves and solitary, nodding, fragrant, double white flowers, the inner segments lightly-marked with greenish-yellow
'Jacquenetta' is a bulbous perennial with narrow, grey-green leaves, slightly folded at the margins and with a greyer central stripe. In late winter bears large, double flowers up to 2.5cm across. The inner petals are strongly-marked with green at the tips
'Rodmarton Arcturus' is a bulbous, clump-forming perennial with slender, erect leaves and rounded flowers comprising spoon-shaped, bluntly-pointed, white outer segments and inner segments with a broad green mark from the apex, paling at the base
'Kildare' is a bulbous perennial, to 15cm tall, with relatively broad, grey-green leaves and solitary, nodding, white flowers in mid- to late winter. The outer segments are marked with fine green lines at the tips; the inner ones almost all green, lighter towards the base
Hiemalis group is a bulbous, clump-forming perennial with broad, strap-shaped, glaucous leaves and flowers that are borne from late autumn into early winter. The relatively large, globular flowers have white outer segments and inner segments variably marked with green at the apex
'Modern Art' is a bulbous perennial, to 20cm tall, with narrow, grey foliage. Solitary, nodding, white flowers, have outer segments marked with green at the base and tip, and inner ones with a large green mark, in mid- to late winter
'St Pancras' is a bulbous perennial to 20cm tall with greyish-green, strap-shaped leaves. Double flowers comprise pure white outer petals and inner segments with sharply-defined green markings at the apex and paler green, more blurred markings at the base
'Cedric's Prolific' is a vigorous, bulbous perennial with broad, grey-green leaves 2.5cm across, and white flowers on stems up to 40cm tall. The inner petals have a large, green mark and the outer petals have fine green streaks at the tips
