This plant will provide nectar and pollen for bees and the many other types of pollinating insects.
It is included in an evolving list of plants carefully researched and chosen by RHS experts. Divided into 3 groups these lists, linked below, are maintained by a team of RHS staff and are reviewed annually.
S. flava is a carnivorous perennial to 90cm, with slender yellow-green pitchers with erect lids, and nodding yellow flowers 10cm across
'Rodomont' is a trailing plant with stems to 30cm, and semi-double, deep rose-pink flowers, the lower petals streaked with purple
'Cotton Candy' is an evergreen epiphyte forming a rosette of long, thin, silvery-green leaves to around 15cm in diameter. Spikes of lilac-violet flowers emerge from rose pink bracts just above the foliage
S. purpurea is an evergreen, semi-erect, insectivorous perennial to 30cm tall. Squat, green pitchers, to around 15cm long, are flushed and veined purplish-red, have a large lip and an erect, frilled lid. Five-petalled, purple flowers, up to 5cm in diameter, are borne well above the pitchers in spring
'Buttermilk' is an erect plant to 60cm with green leaves mottled with creamy-white; insignificant pale blue flowers may be borne at any time of year
'Flower of Spring' grows to 45cm in height, with rounded leaves margined with white, and large clusters of single scarlet flowers
C. africanum is a tuberous perennial with heart-shaped bright-green leaves, to 10cm long, with pale-green markings. Flowers in shades of pink, with deep maroon mouths, appear just before the leaves in autumn
'Bodey's Picotee' is a bushy plant to 40cm, with large, deep crimson flowers, finely edged with white, the petals slightly frilled
'Islington Peppermint is a compact, bushy, evergreen perennial with rounded, velvety, bright-green, peppermint-scented foliage. Open sprays of small flowers, with dark red upper petals and creamy-white lower petals, are produced from late spring to early autumn
'Sierra Pink with Eye' is a perennial to 30cm, with pale pink flowers, bright purple-red around the mouth, in early winter
