2020 marks the 35th year of a spring flower show held in the beautiful rolling hills of Malvern and to make the celebration even more special, it falls over the Bank Holiday weekend marking the 75th anniversary of VE Day. Special features at the RHS Malvern Spring Festival will be centred around both anniversaries with an overarching theme of Wonderlust and Wander.

In the spirit of sustainability no plastic carrier bags will be handed out in the Festival’s new Plants, people and Wellbeing zone and there will be water filling stations for you to fill up your own water bottle, to reduce the use of plastic. You are also encouraged to bring your own mug for hot drinks.

The Habit of Living Garden
A confirmed seven Show Gardens are planned from designers including the familiar name Peter Dowle, who is incorporating water and Japanese maples. An immersive garden of 'wanderlust and wonder' reconnecting people to nature and a French Second World War garden are also proposed.

Malvern Shipping Containers is a new feature for 2020 spawned from a successful idea trialed in 2019. In a shipping container measuring 6m x 6m, five designers will create indoor and outdoor living spaces using a range of plants to match.

Visitors laughing in the Floral MarqueeIn the Floral Marquee 68 nurseries gather to show the finest plants for the spring season. Look out for several new cultivars not yet seen by gardeners including heuchera, pelargonium and a lily. Outside the marquee a further 38 growers and plant retailers will have displays in the Plant Village selling a vast range of plants from tiny alpines to exotic tree ferns.

Floristry is being given its own marquee this year and will focus on British cut flowers. The space will also be the venue for floristry talks and workshops.

Enjoy the sound of music

As there is so much to celebrate, the show is hosting two special evening concerts. On Friday 8 May the 54-piece English Symphony Orchestra fronted by soprano vocalist Lesley Garrett will bring the showground to life with classical music.

On Saturday 9 May, Radio 2 DJ and keen gardener Jo Whiley will host the ‘Gardeners’ Party’ playing music chosen by the show’s special guests and exhibitors. An evening ticket is available so you can spend a couple of hours enjoying the show before the music starts.
