CCLA: A Family Garden

Show Gardens

Did you know...

  • The dark grey pavilion contrasts particularly well with the pale stone paving creating a clean, contemporary feel. It also makes an effective foil for the planting; the white flowered Iris ensata beside the water feature and against the dark backdrop is particularly striking
  • The woven feature in the children's meadow area is an onion willow den created by Judith Newham; it adds a rustic sculptural note, while making a great place to play
  • Planting to the front of the garden includes apricot coloured foxglove, hostas, red flowered Astrantia and the purple spires of Lysimachia atropurpurea 'Beaujolais' and white flowered Rosa 'Jacqueline du Pre'. The two trees in front are Turkish hazel (Corylus colurna)

About the garden

The garden is an all-inclusive, safe family area in which to sit, relax, entertain and connect with nature. The varied levels and surfaces invite the visitor to meander and explore structural and informal planting, ornamental varieties and edibles.

The pavilion is the space that brings the family together incorporating a children’s play area with a relaxed seating space. The two water features in the garden provide sound and movement.
