Celebrities promoted the power of plants at Chatsworth

Well-known faces put their creative skills to work to support the RHS

Mary Berry with her Power FlowerCelebrities including Mary Berry, Nicki Chapman, Joanna Lumley, Carol Kirkwood, Floella Benjamin, Monty Don and Joe Swift painted ‘Power Flowers' to raise awareness of the power of plants as part of the RHS Greening Great Britain Campaign.

The ‘Power Flowers’ were showcased at the Chatsworth Flower Show, between Wednesday 5 June and Sunday 9 June 2019.

They were auctioned off on Ebay, in royalhorticulturalsociety items for sale, from 12pm Tuesday 5 June  through to Saturday 16 June, to raise funds for the RHS Campaign for School Gardening, to help more school children have access to gardening.

The flowers were created to raise awareness of the power of plants as part of the RHS Greening Great Britain campaign and to highlight that everyone can make a difference one plant at a time.

The RHS Greening Great Britain Campaign promotes gardening for the positive difference it makes to health and wellbeing and for the environment.
Britain’s best-loved cook and RHS Ambassador Mary Berry said:  “I’ve long loved gardening as a way to relax and feel the best tonic of all is to enjoy the great outdoors.
“The health and wellbeing benefits of gardening was a huge theme at RHS Chelsea Flower Show this year and the benefits of growing plants for our health, both mental and physical, are increasingly being recognised.
“I hope people enjoy the Power Flowers and it’s great that through the auction the RHS will be raising funds for the next generation of gardeners.”

Nicki Chapman
TV and radio presenter Nicki Chapman said:  “I think it’s brilliant that the RHS does fun initiatives like this to engage with new audiences and people who, like myself,  aren’t expert gardeners.

“The RHS is a vital charity and we can all make a positive difference to the environment and for wildlife by growing more plants, as well as reaping the benefits by creating beautiful places to enjoy in our own and community gardens.”

The Power Flowers were auctioned on Ebay between midday Wednesday 5 June and midday Saturday 16 June on Ebay.
