RHS Show Garden rebuilt in Angell Town, Brixton

The 2016 RHS Greening Grey Britain Garden for Health, Happiness and Horticulture, designed by Ann-Marie Powell, has been relocated to the Angell Town estate in the borough of Lambeth.
 
The garden has been recreated in Little Angel’s Park on the Angell Town estate, and has even had a visit from Mayor Sadiq Khan. A number of the estate’s residents helped to build the original at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
 
The project was a collaboration between the RHS, the Evening Standard and Angell Town – and was the result of five months of questionnaires, open days, community days and leaflet delivering.

One thing that did not make the journey from Chelsea was the shipping container potting shed – residents decided they did not want to see that in the park.

“My grandparents lived on a council estate, and a lot of my extended family still live there, I feel an affinity for people in places like Angell Town.” 

Chelsea gold medal winner Powell, who brought her third garden to the show, told the Evening Standard: “My grandparents lived on a council estate, and a lot of my extended family still live there, I feel an affinity for people in places like Angell Town.” 
 

RHS Front Garden Summit

A key part of our Greening Grey Britain Campaign is about transforming paved-over front gardens into beautiful, planted areas. Our Front Garden Summit debate was held at the 2016 RHS Chelsea Flower Show on Tuesday 24 May.
