A pavilion structure houses a garden, like a 21st century Wardian case. The architectural exterior gives way to a seemingly boundless interior tumbling with plants, as if revealing some unmade scene that has been stumbled upon in the wild. An internal watering system emulates rainfall and lighting represents sunlight, contributing to the impression of a natural scene. This contained garden is designed to be viewed from outside, set within an urban public space.

Cave Pavilion illustrates the relevance and importance of plant collecting in the 21st century. The garden comprises rare plant species collected by Sue and Bleddyn Wynn-Jones, who won the President’s Award at Chelsea in 2011 for their display in the Great Pavilion. Many of the plants in the garden have not been seen before in cultivation.
