The Portland stone used as paving is a feature of many war cemeteries. In the very centre a circular seat is capped by an engraved round stone crest, one of many detailed elements.

Relaxed country garden styled planting is very much in the style of Gertrude Jekyll; in this corner alliums white and purple contrast with billowing clouds of purple Thalictrum.

The sculptures in the gardens are vintage pieces more than 50 years old and designed by Sir Charles Wheeler for the CWGC Portsmouth Naval memorial, now replaced.

Intricate metalwork railings help separate the planting area from the raised platform. The separately crafted leaves sway in the breeze echoing the planting behind.
