The Green Lady of Caerphilly

Show Features

Legend has it that a Green Lady, the ghost of Princess Alice of Angouleme, haunts the ramparts of Caerphilly Castle, waiting to be reunited with her prince, Gruffudd the Fair, whom her husband, Gilbert de Clare conspired to murder.

Constructed from wicker, the green lady stands aloft, the train of her dress curving around a reconstruction of the castle¹s leaning tower. A mass of green foliage grounds the figure in her landscape.

Plants with varied leaf shape and texture creating an eerie and atmospheric feel include Miscanthus sinensis, Thuja hedges, Chlorophytum comosum, Hyssop, Trachelospermum, birch, Liriope muscari, hostas and Dryopteris erythrosora.
