RHS Flower Show Cardiff

RHS Flower Show Cardiff was held in the parklands of Cardiff Castle from 2005 to 2019. Attracting more than 20,000 visitors each year, it was the first major flower show of the year in the RHS calendar, and for many, heralded the start of spring. Take a look back at some of the highlights…

The 2019 show

The 2019 RHS Flower Show Cardiff focused on community, wellbeing, and affordable garden ideas. Highlighting the health benefits of gardening, it featured stunning displays, including the Cardiff Master Grower R. & A. Scamp Quality Daffodils. Floristry, Blossoming Beds competitions, and the Regeneration Gardens showcased creativity and sustainability. Expert talks were given by the likes of James Alexander-Sinclair and Terry Walton. The popular wheelbarrow competition engaged local schools, emphasising gardening’s appeal to the next generation.

The 2018 show

The 2018 RHS Flower Show Cardiff opened the gardening year with vibrant spring displays, introducing Regeneration Gardens and celebrating Dibleys Nursery as the Cardiff Master Grower. Themed around the ‘Year of the Sea,’ the show featured family-friendly activities, talks by experts like Jonathan Moseley, and a diverse Farmers’ Market. The Discovery area showcased educational exhibits, making the show an all-round entertaining day out for all the family.

The 2017 show

The 2017 RHS Flower Show in Cardiff was a celebration of Wales’ Year of Legends. Themed gardens, including tributes to Blackfriars and the mythical Blodeuwedd, adorned Bute Park. The ‘Walk on the Wild Side’ exhibit showcased novice gardeners and wildlife-friendly plants, while family activities and the Museum of Wales added to the enchantment. Floral exhibits from UK nurseries inspired visitors, with Tale Valley Nursery as the Cardiff Master Grower. The show blended enchanting gardens, family fun, and wildlife conservation, creating a memorable celebration of Welsh traditions.

Earlier shows 2016–2005

The RHS Flower Show Cardiff was held annually in Bute Park, Cardiff from 2005 and was seen as a celebration of spring in the heart of the Welsh capital for thousands of visitors and exhibitors. It showcased creative garden designs, quirky floral displays, and practical floral horticultural exhibits. The show attracted gardening enthusiasts, families and expert growers, and featured competitions, demonstrations, and talks – the show always made for a great day out.
