Macmillan Legacy Garden

A garden of reflection, highlighting the work of the charity and the importance of legacy gifts

Back to Back Gardens

The Macmillan Legacy Garden is a place of reflection, inspired by the work of the charity and all those involved and illustrating the importance of legacies in continuing their work.

At the entrance is a wishing well, in which copper discs have been placed, engraved with words from past donors. Upright timber and copper poles flow from the well, threading their way through the planting. These poles, of varying sizes, represent the work of Macmillan, made possible by legacy gifts, both small and large.

The poles end by enclosing a circular seating area, where a copper disc engraved with words from those helped by Macmillan, set into the paving circle, is the culmination of the journey through the garden. The planting is designed to emphasise those elements of nature that most attract us – colour, scent and texture.
