  • RHS & BBC Gardeners' Question Time

This special feature, at the RHS Hub by the bandstand in Inspire Zone, champions the RHS campaign Greening Grey Britain using cutting-edge science to show how plants combat urban pollution.

The RHS and BBC radio’s Gardeners’ Question Time commissioned Nigel Dunnett, garden designer and Professor of Planting Design and Vegetation Technology at the University of Sheffield, to create the garden. Teamed with the Landscape Agency, he has recreated part of a Bristol residential street, transforming it into a lush and green garden. Two Gardeners’ Question Time front gardens feature.

Visitors may walk through the street and it is hoped that they will be inspired and encouraged to ‘green up’ their own front gardens, streets and communities for the benefit of all. The Gardeners’ Question Time audience have contributed ideas that can be heard while in the front gardens. Water, wildlife and food are key to the design of each, while the main community area will inspire people to tackle three ‘grey’ issues – flooding, pollution and urban heating – using plants.
