The charity Scotty’s Little Soldiers, founded by Army widow Nikki Scott, currently supports more than 200 children who have each lost a parent serving in the British Armed Forces. This garden has been created to raise awareness of the charity and its work with bereaved military children. The garden’s theme focuses on the memories of a lost parent.

Visitors are offered the rare chance to wander into and through this Show Garden. The ‘memory tree’ represents constancy in the garden, just as the loss of a parent is constant in a child’s life, while the rill is a metaphor for the child’s journey in life. The turbulent times of bereavement, represented by chaotic and busy planting at the garden’s entrance lead to a more serene and orderly structure further into the garden. The progression of the planting scheme represents the wish that bereaved children, while retaining memories of their parent, progress in a positive manner towards their future.
