The garden is designed to mark 50 years of research funded by Wellbeing of Women into issues affecting women’s health. Due to the therapeutic link between gardens and wellbeing, an RHS Flower Show seemed the perfect place for the Wellbeing of Women Garden.

Stepping stones, marking each decade of the charity’s research work, curve past a calming water feature to a seating area for talking and reflection. At the heart of the garden, engraved in the central stone, are the words ‘Our research for your family’s future’.

Plants are at the core of the garden’s design. The planting is feminine and soft using medicinal; aromatic and sensory plants that promote health and wellbeing, in purples, blues and whites to reflect the charity’s logo.

On one side of the garden hang botanical panels by artist Rachel Dein, which act as a beautiful but poignant reminder of some of the issues behind the charity’s research. Ephemeral by nature the flowers in the panels are no longer living, like babies lost due to miscarriage and stillbirth, or women who have died from gynaecological cancers. While in sharp contrast, on the other boundary, the plants in a living wall are alive and thriving, just as the children and families that the charity’s work has helped.
