Festival family fun

Below are the activities that would have been available for families at Hampton Court in 2020

Free, fun and engaging activities await you and your family at this year's festival, with lots of highlights for children. Simply check the timetables at the festival for each venue to see what’s happening daily and book your places, which are offered on a first-come first-served basis.

Enter The Secret Garden

This year the RHS has collaborated with STUDIOCANAL to mark the release of the new film adaptation of the children’s classic, The Secret Garden. Families like yours will have the opportunity to discover this magic through The Secret Garden-themed workshops and activities.

Visitors of all ages can explore the many ways in which gardens and gardening can help us all connect with each other and improve our physical and mental wellbeing through the magic of growing.

Fun with wildlife

Explore the Forest School approach to play and learning about nature through a range of hands-on activities and workshops. Some of the activities include;

  • Building an open-front robin bird box

  • Weaving a flower

  • Making a bubble wand

  • Painting a flag using naturally sourced paints and cotton or silk

  • Making natural friendship bracelets

The 'Wildlife Garden Safari' is an engaging and fun show-space that allows you to experience the incredible invertebrates that make a wildlife garden their home. Take the opportunity to pond-dip in our wildlife pond and see some amazing animals close up such as water crustaceans, mayfly nymphs and water beetles.

What's in the wildlife-friendly compost heap and rockery area?  And who will be brave enough to lift up the ‘critter curtain’ to see what mysterious wildlife lurks beneath?

Wildlife expert Jules Howard will be on hand throughout the show to talk about the visiting wildlife, which will include bees, damselflies and butterflies. He'll be giving every young pond-dipper a special signed ‘Master of wildlife spotting’ certificate.

As well as all this, members of the wildlife charity Froglife will welcome you in a nearby tent to answer your burning questions on garden wildlife and offer free advice.

See what you can do for wildlife in your own garden.

Take a look at children activities your family can do at home.
