The RHS On Tour will hit the road again in 2018 teaming up with other organisations to hold events with a host of specialist growers, talks, workshops and gardening advice - more details will be coming very soon.
Remember that the RHS On Tour events are free for everyone.
A round-up of 2017 dates
4–5 March - Sample, (an Urban Village Fete), in the Greenwich Peninsula
A contemporary twist on the traditional village fair celebrating the best in design, music, art and modern craftsmanship. The RHS led the plant area at the event, and focused on houseplants and urban growing. Plus, in case you need a bite to eat, there were food stalls around to keep you satisfied.
29–30 April - Flowers and FLEA (vintage and maker's market), at London Bridge
A vintage and makers market with a mix of stalls selling clothes, furniture, ceramics, books and other interesting objects. Along with the regular traders, the RHS was there to focus on plants & horticulture, especially those suitable for growth in containers, on balconies and indoors. There was an array of free workshops including seed sowing and flower crown making, as well as a stage featuring talks on gardening, cooking and crafts. James Alexander Sinclair hosted the stage on Saturday 29 April.
16–17 June - Crossrail Place Roof Garden, Canary Wharf, Open Squares & Gardens Weekend
Friday: 11am-7pm, Saturday: 10am-6pm
This event tied in with the Open Garden Squares weekend in London, and featured specialist growers and workshops, as well as tours of the stunning Crossrail Roof Gardens with the Head Gardener. Exhibitors included House of Plants, Blueleaf Plants and Rotherview Nursery. We also offered some plants for sale that were featured in the Roof Gardens, focusing on ferns. Free workshops included floral crowns (Friday, throughout the day), and taking cuttings to grow on at home with our horticultural expert Joseph Ford (both days, on the hour for half an hour). You could also sign up for paid-for workshops including how to make a succulent living frame, and creating a kokedama (Japanese-style hanging houseplant).
15–16 July - Lambeth Country Show, at Brockwell Park
After the success of last year's event, the RHS returned to curate the Flower Zone at this popular event.
3 September - Brentford Festival, in Blondin Park
Located near Kew Gardens, the RHS brought a horticultural area to this community festival event, featuring workshops, talks and plant sellers.
16–17 September - Flowers & FLEA, at Flat Iron Square
After the success of the Flowers & Flea event in the spring we returned to Flat Iron Square for another weekend of RHS-inspired stalls, talks and activities.
There were expert growers ready to advise on planting for containers and urban gardens, as well as offering a seasonal mix of plants including bulbs, exotic houseplants and shrubs. Free workshops ran throughout the weekend including floral design, seed sowing, autumnal flower crowns and miniature gardens (great for kids), as well as a paid-for workshop where you could create your very own bottle garden.
A program of inspiring talks took place across both days, with Kim Walker and Vicky Chown from Handmade Apothecary talking on herbal remedies, Judith Baehner from Het Groenlab talking on houseplants, and gardening expert Joseph Ford. In addition to all of this the regular Flea traders offered an array of vintage plant pots and furniture, as well as a unique collection of vintage clothing, jewellery and ceramics.
