Reminiscent of maritime dunes and coastal hinterlands, the garden was inspired by childhood memories of Baltic landscapes and featured a collection of unique items found at coastal landscapes over the years adding to the sensuous character of the garden.
A shading pergola and pines formed a bold canopy level, whilst below visitors were able to immerse themselves within stylised dunes filled with a controlled palette of flowers and grasses. The planting featured gnarly pine trees creating dappled shade and vertical structure reminiscent of a coastal pine forests. Ilex crenata box domes introduced sculptural form in contrast to the naturalistic perennial planting. Glaucous mounds of Astelia 'Silver Shadow' and Eryngium giganteum provided silver toned background for 'Goldsturm' rudbeckias and Astrantia 'Hadspen Blood' that speckled the mounds with accents of bright yellow and burgundy flowers.
