Learn the fundamentals of biochar, how to make it and how to use it in your garden. During the afternoon, you will participate in making biochar in a smokeless kiln designed for use in a domestic garden. You will then brew a compost tea and inoculate the biochar, before potting up a plant with biochar to take home so that you can see the benefitst of planting and growing with biochar.

Throughout the workshop we will discuss the history of biochar and how its porous structure works in the soil. You will come away with a good understanding of how the production of biochar is an effective method of carbon capture and storage, and a well renowned soil improver.

Lottie Hawkins has delivered talks at RHS Flower Shows (Hampton Court and Rosemoor). She is currently studying PhD in Biochar Adoption and co-hosted a Biochar workshop at TED Countdown Edinburgh.
