Be part of managing RHS Garden Bridgewater’s Victoria Meadow, and learn a new skill on our Learn to Scythe Course with Steve Tomlin. This day-long course introduces the scythe and is equally suited to those looking to refresh their skills, including:
  • setting up the scythe to fit your body
  • ergonomic mowing technique
  • sharpening in the field
  • peening the edge
  • care and maintenance of your scythe.
Steve’s course will leave you enthused and confident to scythe efficiently and safely. You will have the skill to manage long grass in a gentle way that is kinder to the meadow ecosystem. No more ear defenders, visor, strimmer fumes or noise; just the sound of the birds and the swish of your blade.
Lunch from the RHS Garden Bridgewater café will be provided. Attendees need no prior experience. Note that the full day will be mostly outdoors and standing, learning the technique to scythe on the meadow.

Tutor: Steve Tomlin, a founding member and Training Coordinator of the Scythe Association of Britain and Ireland
