Visit the RHS Garden Bridgewater, Potting Shed to find out more about the history of RHS Garden Bridgewater. The Worsley New Hall estate employed a number of different Head Gardeners who managed the site on behalf of the Ellesmere family from the 1840s. Taking different approaches to gardening and facing varied challenges, experiences differed. With help from archival material you’ll find out more about their activities, in particular the longest serving head gardener William Barber Upjohn who spent over five decades caring for the garden. You will also find more about the rich history of the Grade II Listed Garden Cottage, once a home to the Head Gardeners and their families, now an iconic building overlooking Bridgewater’s walled garden. .
