Get down to RHS Garden Hyde Hall to enjoy a summer of family fun and celebrate the 50th anniversary of Eric Carle's much-loved book The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Take part in The Very Hungry Caterpillar family trail running from 20 July 20 to 2 September, with fun activities for all along the way such as creating a giant collaborative artwork. You can also discover all about the life and work of Eric Carle in a special exhibition installed to celebrate 50 years since the release of The Very Hungry Caterpillar™.

Other activities include:

  • Storytelling walks with Mike Dodsworth – 23 July and 6 & 13 August
  • Sow & Grow (weather dependent) planting workshops in a pop-up outdoor station – 24 & 25 July
  • Kids’ Craft Workshops drop-in to the Hilltop Lodge – 7, 8, 14 & 15 August. Crafts include egg box caterpillars, salt dough caterpillars, antennae headbands and butterfly suncatchers. Crafts will be sold on a first-come-first-served basis while stocks last. (Activities may vary daily). Last admission 2.30pm
  • Character Meet & Greets plus activity sheets, insect crowns and butterfly masks – 22, 27 & 29 August
  • Picnic Day including juice-tasting with Cawston Press – 30 August. Come dressed as your favourite creepy crawly and enjoy activities such as bug-hunting, face-painting and appearances from the VHC character. Bring a picnic or buy one here
