Volunteer in your community

Volunteers in communities across the UK are bringing people together to engage with horticulture – improving their local environment, tackling local issues and creating spaces that are a source of pride for people of all ages

There are thousands of opportunities local to you to volunteer with the RHS, this could be with a Britain in Bloom or It’s Your Neighbourhood group, a community outreach project, a school or youth group. Discover places to volunteer in your local community. Exciting opportunities are also available at one of our gardens, shows or libraries.

Opportunities could include:

  • Planting and maintaining horticultural displays
  • Fundraising – organising local funding events
  • Maintaining street furniture
  • Generating local publicity
  • Litter picking
  • Environmental clean-ups – clearing waterways
  • Creating posters for events

  • Designing floral displays
  • Creating wildlife gardens, wildflower meadows and similar
  • Co-ordinating local gardening competitions
  • Caring for conservation areas
  • Event organising – local activities and fundraising events such as bulb-planting days
  • Helping to run a committee

“Taking part in Britain in Bloom has given the townsfolk a sense of pride in their beautiful town and showing how a small investment in time and energy, picking up litter, sweeping their own forecourts and encouraging wildlife can make such a difference to their quality of life.”
