Key plants in the La Mia Venezia Garden

The plants are well suited to containers as is demonstrated in many Mediterranean countries. The balcony category allows a more exotic experimentation due to the microclimates often created by unique locations and sheltered positions

Sedum morganianum

A succulent, evergreen perennial with trailing stems to 30cm or longer, bearing overlapping, lance-shaped, fleshy glaucous blue-green leaves, and clusters of small, starry pale pink to reddish-purple flowers in spring and summer.

Citrus × limon

Lemons are best grown in a cool or temperate greenhouse or conservatory and moved outside during the summer months. C. x limon is an ancient hybrid, derived from several wild species, and has given rise to many cultivated varieties.

Bougainvillea

Vibrantly coloured bracts of Bougainvillea brighten warm greenhouses and conservatory borders during the summer. These tropical climbers are suitable for large containers placed in the garden during summer but must be kept frost-free in winter.

Salvia officinalis ‘Purpurascens’

'Purpurascens' is an aromatic, semi-evergreen dwarf shrub with purple young foliage and stems, becoming grey-green; leaves oblong, 3-6cm in length. Purple-blue flowers 2cm in length in terminal racemes.
