A mat-forming, evergreen succulent producing large rosettes of fleshy, spoon-shaped leaves, glossy rich purple in winter and spring, then brownish-red, turning green towards the tips of the leaves in summer and autumn. Tall spikes of starry pale pink flowers produced from mature rosettes, die off after flowering in summer and are replaced by new offsets

Cultivation
