A tiny, low-growing, deciduous, South African, perennial bulbous plant, up to 6cm in height, which grows in winter and is dormant in summer. It produces two, fleshy, oval to heart shaped, green leaves, up to 6cm in length and 4cm in width, that lie close to the soil surface. Their upper surface is completely smooth and glossy. A dense cluster of brush-like white flowers with upright petals and white to pink stamens, topped with brown pollen, appear at ground level between the leaves, from November to December
