A clump-forming perennial to around 60cm high, with upright stems bearing alternate, ovate green leaves with deeply impressed veins. Star-shaped white flowers, heavily spotted with violet-blue and with showy central stamens, are produced in the upper leaf axils and at the tips of the stems from late summer into autumn

Cultivation

Grow in moisture-retentive but well-drained, humus-rich soil in a sheltered, shady site; suitable for a woodland garden or shade border. Mulch well in winter. Plants are often late to emerge in spring
