An extremely dwarf, slow-growing, evergreen conifer, which produces a compact, flattened, globe to dome-shaped bush, reaching about 60cm (2ft) high and across after ten years. It has a neat, densely branching habit. The short needles are produced in bunches of two at the tips of the stems and are around 2.5-5cm (1-2in) long. They are stiff to the touch and are green-blue in colour. Its small size, means it is an excellent choice for a small, city or courtyard garden, where an architectural, or evergreen focal point is needed, as well as for container growing, or for inclusion in the rockery
