A medium-sized, epiphytic orchid producing a clump of ovoid pseudobulbs, each carrying four to six, semi-rigid, linear leaves up to 50cm long and 1.5-2cm wide. Up to 20 flowers are carried on pendant flowering stems from early winter. Up to 8cm large flowers vary in colour from orange, salmon or pink, depending on cultivar. The most notable cultivars are 'December Orange' with burnt orange, and 'December Pinkie' with pale pink flowers. The flowers' lip is usually white with dark red markings. Petals and sepals often have pale white or cream edge.
