Clump-forming, deciduous grass, to 1.5m tall, with narrow, arching bright green leaves, thickly banded with golden-yellow horizontal bars, which turn bronze-yellow in autumn, fading to pale brown in winter. Feathery flower panicles open silvery-pink in late summer and early autumn, fading to silver and remaining on the plant over winter
